Why I'm beginning this journey

There… now it’s officially started!

I’m writing to you from a post it note covered desk in my music room, staring at the lonely streetlight outside my window. Every now and then it flickers, as if to tell me, “I know you’re doubting yourself… I see you stumbling between typing letters and then holding delete, but just keep going.”

Growing up in a house of big personalities made me a skilled peace keeper and hungry for my own place to have a voice. Music gave me that. I started writing songs at 14, learning a few chords on the guitar my grandparents got me for my birthday, and partnering those with the pages of my journal. Writing was like opening the door to a room inside myself, and it instantly felt like home with the comfiest furniture and light pouring in through stained glass windows. I’ve been writing songs ever since.

Somewhere in the past fifteen years, I’ve drifted from that stained glass room inside myself. I’m starting this journey on here, searching for a way to write my way back to that feeling of home.

So I’m going to let this be messy. And fun! A notebook passage way for any other wandering souls to hopefully find pieces of truth that we have in common, and feel a little less alone in our travels. I plan to share journal entries, to pull at the threads of my thoughts and feelings without giving myself any rules. Just create. Write. Doodle in the margins. And share it. Sometimes I’ll share songs and what I’m working on musically. Pieces of life. Poetry. Stories from my 100 new thing challenge I’m beginning right now with this entry. And whatever else I end up feeling like creating, or you end up suggesting. We can fill in these pages together… will you come with me?
